What’s The Difference?
Both braces and Invisalign do the same thing… they straighten your teeth to create a beautiful smile. The difference is the process to get there. Many people will ask if one is better or more effective than another, or if Invisalign takes less time than traditional braces.
Looking at both treatment options and comparing them, Invisalign and traditional braces are really quite similar, one is not really ‘better’ than the other. However, depending upon where you’re at in life, one treatment may be better suited for your current lifestyle.
Invisalign Vs Braces: Similarities
- Invisalign & traditional braces are are both orthodontic appliances that straighten your teeth by applying a force against your teeth that over time shifts the alignment of the teeth.
- These treatments help align teeth to alleviate crowding, overbites, underbites and excess spacing.
- Traditional braces are usually a better option in more advanced orthodontic cases.
- Both treatment options require you to visit your orthodontist about every four to eight weeks.
Invisalign Vs Braces: Differences
- Invisalign moves the teeth using clear aligners. The aligners, or trays, come in a set and have planned tooth movements programmed into each aligner – so that when you complete your set of aligners, your teeth will be completely straight. Traditional braces are the typical metal or ceramic/clear brackets and wires.
- The Invisalign trays are clear they are practically invisible. Braces are available with a clear bracket option, also making them a little less noticeable and more esthetic, however – Invisalign will be the most unnoticeable out of the two.
- Invisalign trays are removable so they can be taken out for eating, drinking, oral hygiene and social situations. But for the Invisalign aligners to work effectively, they must be worn 21-23 hours/day, everyday.
- Removable Invisalign aligners make it easier to floss during treatment.
